With great fanfare, The Lion Electric Co. officially unveiled its new Class 8 all-electric truck, the Lion8, to an audience of over three hundred people at the Centre de formation du transport routier (CFTR), a long-time partner, in Mirabel, QC. Guests included industry and market leaders, FPInnovations PIT Group partners, as well as several Québec Ministers.
“The government is pleased to have contributed $8.6 million to the success of this promising initiative and to have contributed to the electrification of transportation in Québec”, declared Minister of Economy and Innovation Pierre Fitzgibbon. “The Lion Electric Co. and its partners TM4, AddÉnergie Technologies, and Centum Adetel Transportation Solution have combined their efforts and expertise to develop a zero-emission heavy-duty truck that demonstrates Québec’s leadership in innovation and sustainable development.”
Being all-electric, the Lion8 produces zero greenhouse gas emissions or noise pollution; it provides an 80% reduction in energy costs and a 60% reduction in maintenance costs. The elimination of noise pollution, optimization of visibility, and an unparalleled turning radius make the Lion8’s driving experience safe, enjoyable, and incomparable. The company already has orders and committed buyers for this innovative truck. The Société des alcohols du Québec (SAQ) will be taking delivery of the first Lion8 produced commercially, this fall.
Said Marc Bédard, founder and CEO of The Lion Electric Corporation: “Day after day, the expertise, passion, and vision of our partners, suppliers, and employees continues to impress me. Thanks to them and the industry that fully supports the electrification of transportation, we were able to make possible what everyone said was impossible!”
The US unveiling occurred a week later, at the annual meeting of the American Trucking Association’s Technology and Maintenance Council, TMC 2019, in Atlanta, Georgia. Yves Provencher, Senior Manager – Business Development at The Lion Electric Co. and formerly a director at FPInnovations PIT Group, is now taking the Lion8 on a road trip to the West Coast.
